What Are You Looking At?-Banksy

Graffiti is a relatively modern form of art that uses property (streets, walls, bridges, etc.) as a canvas to convey the artist’s message. By using property that is publicly viewable graffiti art is more widely viewed by people from all kinds of socio-economic environments, people who have very different views of the world. Banksy is the pseudonym of a mysterious artist whose identity is not known publicly, he is also a political activist and painter. He never sells any of his paintings or graffiti art, using art not as a mean of living but simply to send his message out to people. Banksy’s blunt usage of messages that challenges the government and society as a whole and his clever use of irony resonate with me. This particular graffiti touches on the topic of how much of our lives are recorded. Whether it be by CCTV’s or phone records, bank records, internet history, etc.
